PORT OF LEIXÕES

Description

The Port of Leixões is situated in the north of Portugal, in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula, about 2½ miles to the north of the mouth of the River Douro. The port is surrounded by the cities of Leça da Palmeira on the North and Matosinhos on the South.

It’s located in a very densely populated and industrialized area, and accessed by railway. The Port is connected to a dedicated fast way road, the VILPL (Via Interior de Ligação ao Porto de Leixões), that allows all heavy transport to be diverted from the cities that surround the port (Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira).

The Port operates 365 days a year with high levels of productivity, reduced time spent by ships at the quayside and a clear commitment to sustainability. Using modern equipment and advanced port traffic management and security systems, Leixões Port is versatile, efficient and competitive, offering security, reliability and quality of service.

The Logistics Platform of the Port of Leixões, is a structure made up of two logistic hubs, with a total area of 70 hectares, located in the surrounding area of the Port of Leixões, has unique conditions for attracting and fixing logistics and distribution centers, which allow anchor new traffic to Leixões and the surrounding logistics communities and chains, and contribute decisively to transforming the Porto Metropolitan Area into an Iberian-level added value platform.
