PORTUGUESE SEAMOUNTS BIODIVERSITY DATA MANAGEMENT
SeaBioData aims at developing a technological framework for the effective and efficient monitoring of seamounts, providing adequate and timely information, thus contributing for the establishment of the Good Environmental Status (GES) of the Portuguese marine environment and their biodiversity.
In SeaBioData (EEAGrants, PT02_Aviso5_0002), INESC TEC conceived and developed a state-of-the-art technological framework to ensure that the biological material associated information collected in the project BIOMETORE (EEAGrants, PT02_Aviso2_0001) is compiled and fully accessible. This information relates to the biodiversity of seamounts and their ecosystems, namely in the Madeira-Tore and Great Meteor. The system ensures the integration, organization and long-term preservation of relevant data for marine information systems, enabling prompt and uniform data access to researchers at a local and national level.
SeaBioData provides new means to store and access original datasets and a set of interoperable services to disseminate observation data, thus providing baseline information for sustainable management of the Portuguese marine environment, as well as to the development of the marine strategies for the continuous assessment and maintenance of the good environmental status (GES).
The SeaBioData application is a perfect fit for teams of researchers dedicated to the exploration of the biodiversity in seamounts and their ecosystems. It offers a solution that allows the planning and the management of scientific marine campaigns and related procedures as well as the biological material associated data collected and processed by researchers. As well as geographic visualization tools of the data stored in the system.
